-
Day 1, Thursday
- Departure at 08:00 from Caracas airport to Canaima. Flight of 1 h 05 min
- Welcome by the Waku Lodge staff and transfer to the lodge

Important: the mandatory park tourist fee is $40 for adults and $20 for children under 11. It is paid only on site and only in cash: we recommend bringing US dollars ready.
At the lodge, meals are included: buffet-style breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, with Venezuelan and international cuisine, cold and hot non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks are paid separately. If you bring your own bottle, the restaurant charges a corkage fee of $10 per bottle. Depending on the number of guests, service may be à la carte instead of buffet.
Important: this is the standard program; the National Park representatives may adjust it on site by changing the order of the activities.
Route of the day:
- Excursion to the El Sapo and El Hacha waterfalls (~4–5 hours). Difficulty: low
- The trip begins by sailing across the Canaima lagoon in a curiara, the traditional boat of the area. The group disembarks on Anatoly Island and continues on foot through the jungle to El Sapo Falls, which you cross from behind, along a path that runs right behind the curtain of water
- After resting at the viewpoint in front of El Sapo, the group returns by crossing the fall again. After a short stretch across the savanna, you reach El Hacha Falls, which is also crossed by a path hidden behind the falling water
- Back at the lodge: dinner and free time
Meals at the lodge: lunch, dinner.
-
Day 2, Friday
- Excursion to Angel Falls. Difficulty: medium
- After breakfast, a short safety briefing and departure by pickup trucks to the pier, where the curiaras are taken to cross the lagoon
- Hike across the savanna and navigation along the river, with a lunch stop on Orquídea Island. The journey to Angel Falls takes about 4 hours
- Climb along a fairly steep jungle trail to the culminating point of the trip: the viewpoint in front of Angel Falls
- Dinner at the base camp, in front of the waterfall
- Night in a hammock under a palm roof
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Optional: the night at the camp can be replaced by a day excursion to Angel Falls (about 14 hours, with an early breakfast and departure at dawn). In that case you sleep at the lodge.
-
Day 3, Saturday

- Free time
This day you can take an optional excursion or rest at the lodge. It includes an activity of your choice: paddle board or kayak on the Canaima lagoon (1 hour, according to the lodge's schedule).

Recommendations: before visiting the falls you can leave your belongings under supervision so they do not get wet. Since a huge amount of water falls, it is best to go in a swimsuit or in lycra clothing. Leave your phone and camera, or carry them in a waterproof case.
Wear comfortable footwear; water shoes are ideal. The force of the water is enormous, so putting your hands or feet into the fall is strictly forbidden. Always hold on to the railings or ropes to keep your balance.
What to bring:
- Waterproof backpack or bag
- Waterproof case for your equipment
- Swimsuit
- Sunscreen SPF 50–100
- Sunglasses
- Cap or hat
- Mosquito repellent
- Travel first-aid kit
- Spare socks
- Socks for walking behind the curtain of water on wet rocks (they slip the least)
- Comfortable footwear (sport sandals or sneakers with a non-slip sole)
- Change of clothes (optional)
- Warm clothes (sweater or light jacket) and a simple raincoat
- American-type plug adapter, charger and power bank
- Small bills ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20) for purchases and tips
Canaima National Park is in the south of Venezuela; it is one of the largest national parks in South America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for its waterfalls — among them the highest in the world, Angel Falls —, its landscapes and its amazing nature.
Waku Lodge is the essence of ecological tourism. The lodge is inside the park, on the shore of the Canaima lagoon, surrounded by tepuis and imposing nature. Its rooms, wrapped in tropical vegetation, offer comfort, rest and views of the reserve. In addition, in its restaurant you can enjoy authentic Latin American flavors and, at the bar, typical drinks.
The Canaima Lagoon is crescent-shaped and surrounded by spectacular mountain landscapes. It is famous for the intense color of its waters, dark and transparent, due to their high concentration of minerals.
The El Sapo and El Hacha waterfalls are very close to the lagoon. El Sapo is a wonder that can be admired from the outside and the inside, surrounded by authentic jungle. El Hacha hides among dense tropical vegetation and majestic mountains.
